What causes urinary incontinence?

Incontinence occurs when the bladder and/or bowel are not able to hold enough urine or stool to prevent leaking. There are many different reasons why this might happen. Some of these include:

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Cancer

Types of Incontinence

The first step in treating incontinence is to determine what type of incontinence you have. There are three types: Urinary (also called “overflow” or “stress”), fecal (“leakage”) and mixed urinary/fecal incontinence.

The most common form of incontinence is stress incontinence, which occurs when the bladder muscle weakens due to childbirth, pregnancy, menopause, aging, obesity, injury, or other factors. This weakness causes urine to leak during physical activity such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising. Stress incontinence may also occur if the urethra is too short or narrow. If you experience frequent leaking while sitting down, you may have overactive bladder syndrome.

Benefits of Emsella

Those who have experienced the sudden urge to go, some degree of stress incontinence, or urinary incontinence are the best candidates for Emsella. Stress incontinence normally occurs when the loss of urine is experienced while coughing, sneezing, laughing, and exercising.

A reduction in the frequency of leaks can result in a dramatic and positive effect on our lives. There is also a reduction in the risk of developing more severe health problems because of incontinence.

The Emsella treatment is non-invasive and has no side effects. As a result, you can go on with your day after treatment.

How Emsella treats Incontinence

Emsella is a comfortable, noninvasive treatment for incontinence. As you relax in the Emsella chair, high intensity focused electromagnetic technology emits pulses to stimulate nerve endings in the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscle contractions result in strengthened muscles and allow you to hold on longer before needing to go to the restroom.

The Emsella Chair provides stimulation equivalent to thousands of Kegel exercises and effectively restores neuromuscular control.

Male Incontinence

Men can suffer from similar incontinence problems, though, with the anatomical differences between males and females. Emsella cannot treat all male patients. However, most male patients do find some relief from the treatment.

Emsella treatments

Emsella treatments are typically 20-30 minutes. Two sessions per week over four weeks is recommended to provide optimal stimulation to the pelvic floor muscle. After, maintenance therapy can be done once every six months.

Although the effects can be felt from a single session, it is important to follow a series of treatments to fully improve the function of the pelvic muscles.

Am I a good candidate?

If you are experiencing any leakage, Emsella might be the perfect treatment for you. In addition, intimate health conditions including vaginal laxity and difficulty reaching orgasm area also improved.

You should not undergo the Emsella treatment if you:

  • Have a copper coil or IUD
  • Have electronic implants, or metal implants such as hip replacements
  • Are currently pregnant or nursing
  • Have severe symptoms

Downtime and recovery

There is no recovery time or significant side effects associated with the Emsella treatment. Immediately after your treatment session, you are free to continue normal activities as soon as you wish, making this a convenient option for incontinent patients.
